The term “gastropub” started in London when Mike Helben and David Eyre took over a pub. They wanted to combine it with great food and high-end beer. “Gastropub” was recognized as a word in the dictionary in August of 2012.
Now days, you cannot go into a city in the United States without finding several places calling themselves a gastropub. In many cases, they are brewing their own beer and serve craft cocktails. These places are popular with the younger crowd as it gives them a social platform to interact with their co-workers and friends.
Today I researched several gastropubs in Dallas. I found it very interesting that many of these places don’t say much about themselves on their website. Mostly they say they create unique dishes, serve beer and craft cocktails and what days they are open and the hours they keep. Many of their websites are very basic pointing the user to their Facebook or Instagram. But I did find three that talked a little more about themselves, so I’ll be writing about them.
Bulla Gastrobar has seven locations throughout the United States but the one I looked at is in Plano, Texas. Plano, Texas is about twenty miles from Dallas. So, if you live in Dallas, you may want to make it a trip when you have extra time.
Bulla Gastrobar was the dream of Carlos Centurion who fell in love with the gastrobars in Spain. He fashioned Bulla Gastrobar after the ones in Spain and put his twist on the tapas. His first restaurant was in Coral Gables, Florida and it spread out from there with his team of restauranteurs.
Born and raised in Costa Rica, Chef Diego Solano was inspired to cook by his grandmother. He traveled the world sampling food and learning new recipes. He cooked in many of Spain’s high-end restaurants learning new techniques and picking up homemade family recipes from top chefs. He has become invaluable to the Bulla’s Gastrobar chain of restaurants. He oversees the menus in all the restaurants making sure each one has fresh new recipes to keep the clients coming in.
The people in Dallas, Texas must agree this is a fantastic restaurant as they have promoted them on the internet to get over a four-star rating with over two hundred posts.
Henry’s Majestic is located on McKinney Avenue in Dallas, Texas. Their motto is “Good food. Strong drink.” The atmosphere is comfortable with two large bars, a contemporary dining room and a dog friendly patio with a fireplace.
Henry’s Majestic’s menu includes small plate items like fresh oyster, charcuterie from the meat parlour or their Texas “pho” bowl. Stop in on Friday and Saturday to enjoy some music with their featured artist. On Sundays they offer half off the food to anybody in the Service Industry plus five-dollar draught beer – oh they have twenty-four taps to choose from – and don’t say no to the dollar oysters.
They have been featured many times in the Eater Dallas saying they have the best Mimosas with their Dallas Brunch and named them one of the best restaurants/bars in Dallas. In May of 2016 they were on Bravo as one of the “10 Most Luxurious Burgers of the World”.
With over four hundred reviews online you can be sure your experience would be just as awesome as theirs.
Vernon’s Gastropub is located at 5290 Belt Line Rd., Suite 142. It was founded in 1986 as a local sports bar and grille. They rebranded themselves in 2013 to become a gastropub offering American favorites with a southwest influence. Their craft beers are popular as well as their craft cocktails.
Vernon’s Gastropub has gotten quite a following with the North Texas Cheddar Heads as they are the biggest Green Bay Packers hangout. They are now getting into the Oklahoma Sooner’s by having a watch party on game day.
Vernon’s Gastropub is never one to turn down a party. This year they are celebrating their 32nd Annual Christmas Eve Party with a live DJ starting at 6pm. You missed their Vernon’s 10th Annual Ugly Sweater Party that was on December 6th. They were collecting new and used shoes for all ages giving everyone who brought some one free drink ticket.
Sounds like the over four hundred posts in the world wide web are for a good reason.
